Let me start by saying I think this comic it's a close one with Silver Surfer #4! Is the ultimate Silver Surfer comic from cover to last page! The cover and art are superbly drawn by Marie Severin and the story scripted by Stan Lee himself, giving his actual signature on the cover more significance because he contributed to the story itself.
By the time this story takes place, Silver Surfer has sacrificed his love to save his planet (as told in SS #1), come to this world to be shunned and hounded, beaten up by the Thing over jealousy (FF #55), and deceived and stolen from by Dr. Doom who pretends to be his friend (FF #57). Then in this issue he stumbles upon another tortured soul (meets Hulk for the 1st time) like himself, tries to aid him, and the Hulk mistakes his aid for hostility. With all these interactions with humans on this planet, Surfer finally has had enough and throws a tantrum as we see in the FF #72 story another awesome cover! Ya gotta admit, this guy has way more problems than Peter Parker!
Which is why Stan Lee has admitted is his favorite character ever. It is 1 of 74 in grade, and only 4 of those are signed, not necessarily by Stan Lee either. And there's no way to know who those were signed by. So this book is definitely worthy of a place in everyone's personal collection.
Case is perfect with comic having no writing (except Stan's signature neatly placed near his surfboard), date stamps or overspray on top of pages. Pages are off-white to white.
